A Revised Nomenclature
Expectations assigned by evocative titles too easily pre-empt the raw experience which owes entirely to characterize non-representational work. The natural precaution is replacement of value—laden names with unadorned references; an piece is well served simply to be counted in a series of sculptures of the same material: e.g., Alabaster #3. The revised nomenclature includes every sculpture, but acquired pieces parenthetically retain the name they have already taken with them into collections: e.g., Soapstone #2 (Waterfall).
