Over at the Sculpture Community, Seth started a resolution for sculptors this year 2008 thread. It mainly serves as a reminder to sculptors to not attempt to save money by using cheaper materials because they'll loose more money in the long run.
Although I'm not one to participate in the New Years resolution ritual, this got me thinking about things I learned from last year which I need to remember:
- Be patient, and don't argue with the stone.
- Reuse "scrap" stone to further create beauty.
- Let the creative process take all the time it needs.
- Allow for time to explore other construction challenges.
- Allow for hobby purchases, but remember where the financial focus should be.
In 2007, I really forced myself to push my work outside of my comfort zone. Now that I'm out of that zone, I'll be continuing to push my creative limits and testing the limits of the stone this year.
2008 will be one of increased professional development. While continuing on the Board of Directors for CARFAC Ontario, my academic focus will be on copyright. I'll be travelling "on business" quite frequently to attend the Innovation Law & Theory Workshops hosted by the Centre for Innovation Law & Theory. I'm also planning to attend the Technology in the Arts conference in Waterloo and the Sculpture Conference in Grand Rapids.
Overall, life is going to become fuller with each passing day!
